Edward B. Almon

Edward Berton Almon (born April 18, 1860 in Moulton , Lawrence County , Alabama , † June 22, 1933 in Washington, DC ) was an American lawyer, judge and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Edward Almon attended village school and then graduated from State Normal College in Florence . He then graduated in 1883 from the Law Department of the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa . He was admitted to the bar in 1885 and began practicing in Tuscumbia .

Almon also had a political career. He served in the Alabama Senate between 1892 and 1894 . He then held the post of judge in the eleventh judicial district of Alabama between 1898 and 1906. Almon was a member of the Alabama House of Representatives from 1910 to 1915 . During this time he held the post of speaker in 1911 . Almon was elected to the 64th United States Congress and re-elected to nine subsequent conventions . He served in the United States House of Representatives from March 4, 1915 until his death in Washington, DC in 1933. During this time he chaired the Committee on Roads ( 72nd and 73rd Congresses ). He was buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Tuscumbia.
