William Willis Garth

William Willis Garth (born October 28, 1828 in Morgan County , Alabama , † February 25, 1912 in Huntsville , Madison County , Alabama) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

William Willis Garth went classical subjects in Lagrange ( Virginia ) and at Emory and Henry College in Emory by (Virginia). He studied law at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville , was admitted to the bar, and then began practicing in Huntsville, Alabama. After the outbreak of the American Civil War , he served as Lieutenant Colonel on General Longstreet's staff in the Confederate Army .

Garth was elected to the 45th US Congress . In his candidacy in 1878 in the 46th US Congress he suffered a defeat. He served in the US House of Representatives from March 4, 1877 to March 3, 1879. He then resumed his practice as a lawyer. Garth died in Huntsville, Alabama in 1912 and was then buried in Maple Hill Cemetery .
