Walter W. Bankhead

Walter Will Bankhead (born July 21, 1897 in Jasper , Alabama , † November 1988 ) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Walter Will Bankhead attended public schools. He graduated from the Marion Military Institute in 1916 , from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa in 1919, and from its law school in 1920. He was admitted to the bar in the same year and then started practicing in Jasper. Bankhead also had a political career. In 1940 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago . Then he was elected to the 77th US Congress , where he remained from January 3, 1941 until his resignation on February 1, 1941. Then he went back to his activity as a lawyer. He chaired the committees of Bankhead Mining Co., Inc. and Bankhead Development Co., Inc. He was also President of Mammoth Packing Co. and Bankhead Broadcasting Co., Inc., and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Jasper . He held this post until his death in 1988.

Walter Will Bankhead was the son of John H. Bankhead II and the grandson of John H. Bankhead , both US Senators . He was also the nephew of William B. Bankhead .
