William Flynt "Bill" Nichols (* 16th October 1918 in Monroe County , Mississippi , † 13 December 1988 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party .

Life

Nicols was first elected to the Alabama Senate and the Alabama House of Representatives. In 1966, he beat Republican Glenn Andrews in the election for the United States House of Representatives . Four years later, Andrews faced Nichols again, but lost one more time. In total, Nicols held eleven terms as a representative of the state of Alabama from 1967 until his death .

In 1986 he worked with Barry Goldwater , Senator from Arizona , to draft the Goldwater-Nichols Act .
