Fred L. Blackmon

Fred Leonard Blackmon (born September 15, 1873 in Lime Branch , Polk County , Georgia , † February 8, 1921 in Bartow , Florida ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Fred Blackmon's family moved to Calhoun County , Alabama , in 1883 . He attended the public schools in Dearmanville and Choccolocco . Then he went to the State Normal College in Jacksonville , the Douglasville College in Douglasville (Georgia) and the Mountain City Business College in Chattanooga ( Tennessee ). Blackmon graduated from the University of Alabama Law School at Tuscaloosa in 1894 . He was admitted to the bar that same year and then started practicing in Anniston, Alabama. Then he worked there between 1898 and 1902 as a public prosecutor. He also served in the Alabama Senate between 1900 and 1910 . During this time he chaired the congressional committee of the fourth district of Alabama from 1906 until his resignation in 1910.

Blackmon was elected to the 62nd US Congress and re - elected to the five subsequent congresses . He served in the US House of Representatives from March 4, 1911 until his death in 1921. Blackmon died before his fifth term ended. He was buried in Hillside Cemetery in Anniston.
