Claude Harris, Jr. (born June 29, 1940 in Bessemer , Alabama , † October 2, 1994 in Birmingham , Alabama) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Claude Harris graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science . Then he attended their School of Law , where he graduated in 1965. He was admitted to the bar in the same year. Harris was the assistant prosecutor in Tuscaloosa County from 1965 to 1976 . He then worked as a magistrate between 1977 and 1985. He also served in the Alabama Army National Guard .

Harris also had a political career. He was elected to the 100th US Congress and re - elected to the two subsequent congresses . Harris decided against running for the 103rd US Congress in 1992 . He was a member of the US House of Representatives from January 3, 1987 to January 3, 1993. He then served as a federal attorney for the northern district of Alabama between 1993 and 1994 . He died in Birmingham in 1994, his body was then transferred to Tuscaloosa, where he was buried in Memory Hill Gardens .
