Laurie C. Battle

Laurie Calvin Battle (born May 10, 1912 in Wilsonville , Shelby County , Alabama , † May 2, 2000 in Bethesda , Montgomery County , Maryland ) was an American soldier, lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Laurie Calvin Battle graduated from Deshler High School in Tuscumbia, Alabama, in 1930 . He then went to Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham (Alabama), where he did a Bachelor of Arts . Then he visited in 1934 and 1935, Vanderbilt University and the Scarritt College , both in Nashville ( Tennessee home). He made his Master of Arts in 1939 at Ohio State University in Columbus ( Ohio ). He also attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 1946 .

Battle also pursued a military and political career. He served in the US Army between 1942 and 1946 and then in the United States Army Reserve (USAR) between 1946 and 1972 . During this time he worked as a farm worker. He was also a professor at Ohio State University in 1940. He also worked as an insurance agent and lawyer. Battle was elected to the 80th US Congress and re - elected to the three subsequent US Congresses . In 1954 he decided against running for the 84th US Congress , but ran unsuccessfully for a Democratic nomination for the US Senate . Battle served in the US House of Representatives from January 3, 1947 to January 3, 1955. He then served as a Director of Staff and Legal Counsel for the United States House Committee on Rules from 1966 to 1976 and as Special Adviser to the United States League of Savings Associations in Washington, DC from 1976 to 1988

Battle died in Bethesda, Maryland in 2000 and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery .
