Miles C. Allgood
Miles Clayton Allgood (born February 22, 1878 in Chepultepec (now Allgood ), Blount County , Alabama , † March 4, 1977 in Fort Payne , Alabama) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ).
Career
Miles Clayton Allgood attended community school and then graduated from State Normal College in Florence, Alabama , in 1898 . He then taught in Blount County and was a tax assessor in Blount County between 1900 and 1909.
Allgood also pursued a political career. He was a member of the State Democratic Executive Committee between 1908 and 1910 . He then served as an Agricultural Demonstration Agent in Blount County between 1910 and 1913 . He then held the position of state auditor between 1914 and 1918. Allgood was a commissioner for agriculture and industry between 1918 and 1922 . Then he took part in 1920 as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in San Francisco . Allgood was elected to the 68th US Congress and re - elected to the five subsequent US Congresses , but suffered a defeat when he was nominated for the 74th US Congress in 1934 . He served in the US House of Representatives from March 4, 1923 to January 3, 1935. During this time he chaired the Committee on War Claims ( 72nd and 73rd US Congresses ).
After his tenure he was from September 4, 1935 until his resignation on December 1, 1943 member of the Farm Security Administration . Then in 1954 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of Treasury Secretary of Alabama.
Allgood died in Fort Payne, Alabama, in 1977 and was buried in Valley Head Cemetery in Valley Head, Alabama.
