Charles Wilson Pierce

Charles Wilson Pierce (born October 7, 1823 in Benton , Yates County , New York , † February 18, 1907 in Hastings , St. Johns County , Florida ) was an American politician.

Career

Charles Wilson Pierce moved with his father to Sandusky ( Ohio ) in 1829 and from there to Huntsville (Ohio) in 1847 . Later he moved in 1855 after Havana ( Illinois ). During this time he completed his preparatory studies.

After the outbreak of the American Civil War he enlisted in Company B, 85th Regiment , Illinois Volunteer Infantry , where he initially held the rank of First Lieutenant . On June 14, 1864 he was appointed quartermaster and in the last year of the war a major .

After the war he settled in Demopolis ( Alabama down). Pierce has held various public offices. After Alabama was re-admitted to the Union, he was elected as a Republican to the 40th US Congress , where he served from July 21, 1868 to March 3, 1869. He decided against running for the subsequent 41st US Congress .

Then he moved to Nebraska in 1872. Pierce attended the Nebraska Constituent Assembly in 1875 . He was elected to the Nebraska Senate in 1877 and re-elected in 1880. From this post he resigned in 1881 and then worked as an officer in the US land registry. He held this until May 1886. Then he returned to his farm.

Pierce died in Hastings, Florida in 1907 and was buried in the family cemetery near Waverly, Nebraska.
