Parker Griffith

Parker Griffith (* 6. August 1942 in Shreveport , Louisiana ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . He was a member of the US House of Representatives from 2009 to 2011 , where he represented the fifth congressional electoral district of the state of Alabama .

Griffith was elected as a member of the Democratic Party in Congress , but moved on December 22, 2009 from opposition to various bills such as health reform or the emissions trading law to the Republicans. In June 2010 he lost the primary election of his new party for the following legislative period against Mo Brooks , which is why he resigned from parliament in January 2011.

Prior to his election to the House of Representatives, Griffith was a member of the Alabama Senate from 2006 to 2008 ; in 2004 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of mayor of Huntsville . He studied medicine at Louisiana State University and practiced at the University of Texas at Austin . His specialty is oncology. Griffith has five children with his wife, Virginia.

In 2014 he ran unsuccessfully for governor of Alabama. He was clearly subject to the incumbent Robert J. Bentley . In 2018 he is aiming for a new candidacy.
