Franklin Welsh Bowdon

Franklin Welsh Bowdon (born February 17, 1817 in Chester District , South Carolina , † June 8, 1857 in Henderson , Texas ) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ). He was the uncle of US MP Sydney Johnston Bowie .

Career

Franklin Welsh Bowdon attended community school and graduated from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa in 1836 . He studied law , was admitted to the bar and then began in Talladega ( Alabama ) to practice. Bowdon also had a political career. He served in the Alabama House of Representatives in 1844 and 1845 . Then he was elected to the 29th US Congress to fill the vacancy created by the death of Felix G. McConnell . He was then re-elected to the 30th and 31st US Congresses . Bowdon decided against running for the 32nd US Congress in 1850 . He served in the US House of Representatives from December 7, 1846 to March 3, 1851. During this time he chaired the Committee on Public Buildings and Grounds (31st US Congress). After his tenure he moved to Henderson, Texas in 1852, where he resumed his practice as a lawyer.

Franklin Bowdon was the son-in-law of Congressman Thomas Chilton (1798-1854) from Kentucky .
