Michael Dennis Rogers (born July 16, 1958 in Hammond , Lake County , Indiana ) is an American politician ( Republican Party ).

Career

Michael Dennis Rogers graduated from Saks High School in Anniston, Alabama. Then he went to Jacksonville State University , where he received his Bachelor of Arts in 1981 and his Master of Public Administration in 1984 . He received his Juris Doctor from the Birmingham School of Law in 1991 .

Rogers was a member of the Calhoun County Commission between 1987 and 1990 . Then he was a member of the Alabama House of Representatives between 1994 and 2002 , where he was opposition leader ( minority leader ) between 1998 and 2000 . He was elected to the 108th US Congress and re - elected to the three subsequent US Congresses . He has served in the US House of Representatives since January 3, 2003 . In 2016 and 2018 he was again confirmed in his office. This means that he is expected to remain in the House of Representatives until January 2021, with the option of another candidacy.

In January 2017, Rogers submitted a bill to withdraw the United States from the UN and to close the UN headquarters in New York. Rogers voted on October 29, 2019 as one of 11 members of the House of Representatives against the resolution classifying the murder and deportation of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire as genocide.
