Alexander C. Davidson

Alexander Caldwell Davidson (born December 26, 1826 near Charlotte , Mecklenburg County , North Carolina , † November 6, 1897 in Westwood near Uniontown , Perry County , Alabama ) was an American plantation owner and politician.

Career

Alexander Caldwell Davidson attended public school in Marengo County, Alabama, and graduated from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa on July 11, 1848 . He studied law in Mobile, Alabama, but never practiced. Davidson operated a cotton plantation near Uniontown, Alabama.

He served in the Alabama House of Representatives in 1880 and 1881 . Then he served in the Alabama Senate between 1882 and 1885 . Davidson was elected as a Democrat to the 49th US Congress and re - elected to the subsequent 50th US Congress . He suffered a defeat when he ran for the 51st US Congress . He served in the US House of Representatives from March 4, 1885 to March 3, 1889. Then he went back to agricultural activities.

Davidson died in Westwood near Uniontown, Alabama in 1897 and was buried in the Holy Cross Cemetery of the Davidson Memorial Church in Uniontown.
