Sydenham Moore (born May 25, 1817 in Rutherford County , Tennessee , † May 31, 1862 in Richmond , Virginia ) was an American officer, lawyer, judge and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Sydenham Moore studied classical subjects. He attended the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa between 1833 and 1836 . Moore studied law , got his bar license, and then started practicing in Greensboro . He was a judge in Greene County Court between 1840 and 1846 and between 1848 and 1850 . Then in 1857 he worked as a judge at the district court. During the Mexican-American War , he served as a captain in Colonel Coffey's regiment of the Alabama Infantry between June 1846 and June 1847 . He was also promoted to Brigadier General in the Alabama Militia .

Moore was elected to the 35th US Congress , where he served from March 4, 1857 until his resignation on January 21, 1861. During the American Civil War he served as a Colonel in the 11th Alabama Regiment of the Confederate Army . Moore died in 1862 of the wounds he suffered at the Battle of Seven Pines . He was buried in the Greensboro, Alabama city cemetery.
