William Louis "Bill" Dickinson (born June 5, 1925 in Opelika , Alabama , † March 31, 2008 in Montgomery , Alabama) was an American lawyer, judge and politician ( Republican Party ).

Career

William Louis Dickinson attended the public school in Opelika. He then served in the US Navy between 1943 and 1946 and later held the rank of major in the Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC). Dickinson graduated from the University of Alabama Law School in 1950 with a Juris Doctor . He was admitted to the bar in the same year and then began to practice in Opelika. He was from 1952 to 1954 judge in Opelika, then from 1954 to 1958 Judge at the Court of Common Pleas and Juvenile Court ( Juvenile Court ) in Lee County and most recently from 1958 to 1962 magistrates on 5 Judicial District of Alabama. He was also Deputy Vice President of the Southern Railway System between 1962 and 1964 .

Dickinson was a member of the Opelika Board of Education between 1954 and 1962 and was its president in 1961. He was also a co-founder on the Lee County Rehabilitation Center's board of directors from 1960 to 1962 . He was then a member of the Governor's Industrial Development Committee of One Hundred in 1963 . Dickinson was a delegate to the State Republican Conventions in 1964, 1966, 1968 and 1970, and in 1968 to the Republican National Convention . He was elected to the 89th US Congress and re - elected to the thirteen subsequent US Congresses . Dickinson decided against running for the 103rd US Congress in 1992 . He served in the US House of Representatives from March 3, 1965 to January 3, 1993.
