Joab Lawler

Joab Lawler (born June 12, 1796 in Union County , North Carolina , † May 8, 1838 in Washington, DC ) was an American preacher and politician.

Career

Joab Lawler moved with his father to Tennessee and from there to Mississippi Territory in 1815 . He attended public schools, studied theology and was licensed as a preacher. He then moved in 1820 to Mardi Ville ( Alabama ) and went to his work as a preacher by.

Lawler also pursued a political career. He was a member of the Alabama House of Representatives from 1826 to 1831 . He then served in the Alabama Senate in 1831 and 1832 . He received public funding for the Coosa area between 1832 and 1835 . During this time he was between 1833 and 1836 as treasurer ( treasurer ) of the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa . He was elected as a Jacksonian in the 24th US Congress . He was then re-elected as Whig in the 25th US Congress . Lawler served in the US House of Representatives from March 4, 1835 until his death in 1838 in Washington, DC. He was buried in the Congressional Cemetery .
