Benjamin "Ben" Erdreich (born December 9, 1938 in Birmingham , Alabama ) is an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Ben Erdreich graduated from Shados Valley High School in Birmingham, Alabama in 1956 . He received his Bachelor of Arts in 1960 from Yale University in New Haven ( Connecticut ) and his Juris Doctor in 1963 from the law school of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa (Alabama). He also served as the editor-in-chief of the Alabama Law Review . He then served in the US Army between 1963 and 1965 . He was admitted to the bar in 1963. After his military service, he worked as a lawyer.

Erdreich also pursued a political career. He was a member of the Alabama House of Representatives from 1970 to 1974 . He then held the post of County Commissioner in Jefferson County between 1974 and 1982 . Erdreich was elected to the 98th Congress and re-elected to the four subsequent Congresses . He served in the US House of Representatives from January 3, 1983 to January 3, 1993. During this time he took part in 1988 and 1992 as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions . In the election to the 103rd US Congress , he suffered a defeat. He currently lives in Birmingham.
