John Glen Browder (born January 15, 1943 in Sumter , South Carolina ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Glen Browder graduated from Edmunds High School in Sumter in 1961 . He then received his Bachelor of Arts from Presbyterian College in Clinton in 1965 and his Master of Arts and Ph.D. at Emory University in Atlanta ( Georgia ). During that time, he worked as a sports journalist for the Atlanta Journal in 1966 . He then went to work as an investigator for the United States Civil Service Commission in Atlanta between 1966 and 1968 .

Browder held a position as Professor of Political Science at Jacksonville State University between 1971 and 1987 . He was also President of Data Associates in Anniston, Alabama, from 1978 to 1987 . Browder was a member of the Alabama House of Representatives from 1982 to 1986 . Then he served as Secretary of State between 1987 and 1989 . He was elected to the 101st US Congress in a by -election to fill the vacancy created by the death of Bill Nichols . Browder was re-elected to the US Congress three times . He served in the US House of Representatives from April 4, 1989 to January 3, 1997. Browder decided against running for the US House of Representatives again in 1996, but ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US Senate . He has been a visiting professor in the Department of National Security Affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School since 1997 , specializing in the United States Congress and the United States Department of Defense . He also has a job at Jacksonville State University, where he studies American Democracy .
