John P. Newsome

John Parks Newsome (born February 13, 1893 in Memphis , Shelby County , Tennessee , † November 10, 1961 in Birmingham , Jefferson County , Alabama ) was an American businessman and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

John Parks Newsome attended public school in Thompson's Station, Tennessee, and then the Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, Tennessee. He then worked in 1912 as a warehouse manager in a wholesale company that sold hardware products . Newsome then worked as a businessman between 1913 and 1920. Last year he became president and treasurer of an electrical company. He also served during the First World War in the American Army, where he was appointed First Lieutenant on November 27, 1917 . Later he became a captain of infantry in the 5th Division promoted and served there until April 29, 1919. Newsome had in the years 1942 and 1943 presided over the Appeals Board No. 2, State of Alabama, Selective Service System . Then he was elected to the 78th US Congress , but missed the nomination in 1944 in the subsequent 79th US Congress . He served in the US House of Representatives from January 3, 1943 to January 3, 1945. He later served as President of the Associated Industries of Alabama between 1953 and 1955 . He was also a director of Exchange Security Bank and Alabama Gas Corp. He died in Birmingham (Alabama) in 1961 and was buried there in Elwood Cemetery .
