Louis Washington Turpin

Louis Washington Turpin (born February 22, 1849 in Charlottesville , Albemarle County , Virginia , † February 3, 1903 in Greensboro , Hale County , Alabama ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Louis Washington Turpin moved with his sister to Alabama after the death of his parents and settled in Perry County in 1858 . Turpin completed a self-taught training and then went to agricultural activities. He also worked as a tax assessor between 1873 and 1880. He was also the chairman of the Hale County's Democratic Committee for six years . Turpin ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the 48th US Congress , but was later elected to the 51st US Congress , where he served from March 4, 1889 to June 4, 1890. His election was successfully challenged by John V. McDuffie . After that he was in the 52nd and53rd US Congress re-elected. He served in the US House of Representatives from March 4, 1891 to March 3, 1895. When he was nominated for the 54th US Congress , he suffered a defeat and then withdrew from the political stage.

Turpin died in Greensboro, Alabama in 1903 and was buried in the city cemetery.
