The Hale County is a county in the state of Alabama of the United States . The county seat is Greensboro .

The county is located in west central Alabama, about 60 km from the Mississippi border, and covers an area of ​​1700 square kilometers, of which 33 square kilometers are water. The western border is formed by the Black Warrior River . The county is crossed by the Little Prairie Creek , Big Prairie Creek , Big Brush Creek and Fivemile Creek , all of which flow into the Black Warrior River. The county is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Tuscaloosa Counties , Bibb Counties , Perry Counties , Marengo Counties , and Greene Counties .

history

Hale County was formed on January 30, 1867. It was named after Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Fowler Hale , who fought in the Mexican-American War and the Civil War, where he fell for the Confederate States Army near Richmond .

20 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of April 2, 2020, with the Moundville Archaeological Site and St. Andrew's Church having the status of National Historic Landmarks .

Hale County's population was 17,185 as of the 2000 census . 290 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 6,415 households and 4,605 ​​families.
