The Jackson County is a county in the state of Alabama of the United States . The county seat is Scottsboro . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in the extreme northeast of Alabama, borders Tennessee to the north and Georgia to the east and has an area of 2918 square kilometers, of which 124 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: DeKalb County , Marshall County, and Madison County .
history
Jackson County was formed on December 13, 1819 from land ceded by the Cherokee Indians. It was named after General Andrew Jackson , the seventh President of America and founder of the Jacksonian Democracy .
Twelve structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of April 2, 2020, including the Bridgeport Historic District , the Gen. William Rosecrans Headquarters and the Russell Cave National Monument .

According to the 2000 census , Jackson County had 53,926 people. 579 of them lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 21,615 households and 15,822 families. The population density was 19 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 91.89 percent white, 3.74 percent African American, 1.75 percent Native American, 0.23 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.36 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.00 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.13 percent of the population.
Of the 21,615 households, 31.5 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. There were married couples living together in 59.0 percent, 10.5 percent were single mothers, 26.8 percent were non-families, 24.3 percent of all households were single households and 10.5 percent had people aged 65 and over or above. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.92 people.
24.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.3 percent between 18 and 24, 28.7 percent between 25 and 44, 25.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.4 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.1 males and for females aged 18 and over there were 92 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 32,020 , and the median income for a family is $ 38,082. Males had a median income of $ 29,777 versus $ 20,990 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,000. 10.3 percent of families and 13.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
