Marshall County is a county in the state of Alabama in the United States . The county seat is in Guntersville . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in northern Alabama, about 70 km to the north from Tennessee , about 80 km to the east from Georgia , and has an area of 1,614 square kilometers, of which 145 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Jackson County , DeKalb County , Etowah County , Blount County , Cullman County , Morgan County, and Madison County .
history
Marshall County was formed on January 9, 1836. It was named after Alabama Attorney General John Marshall . The first district capital was Claysville, from 1838 Marshall, from 1841 Warrenton and from 1848 Guntersville.

Marshall County's population was 82,231 as of the 2000 census . Of these, 972 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 32,547 households and 23,531 families. The population density was 56 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.38 percent white, 1.47 percent African American, 0.53 percent Native American, 0.24 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 3.24 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.09 percent were descended from two or more races. 5.66 percent of the population were Anic or Latino of any race.
Of the 32,547 households, 32.4 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. There were married couples living together in 57.8 percent, 10.7 percent were single mothers, 27.7 percent were not families, 24.6 percent of all households were single households and 10.9 percent had people aged 65 and over or above. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.96 people.
24.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.5 percent between 18 and 24 years old, 29.0 percent between 25 and 44 years, 23.4 percent between 45 and 64 years old, and 14.2 percent were 65 years or older older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males and for females aged 18 and over there were 91.5 males.
The median income for a household in the 32,167 USD , and the median income for a family 38,788 USD. Males had a median income of $ 30,500 versus $ 20,807 for women. The per capita income was $ 17,089. 11.7 percent of families and 14.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
