Marshall County is a county in the state of Alabama in the United States . The county seat is in Guntersville . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in northern Alabama, about 70 km to the north from Tennessee , about 80 km to the east from Georgia , and has an area of ​​1,614 square kilometers, of which 145 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Jackson County , DeKalb County , Etowah County , Blount County , Cullman County , Morgan County, and Madison County .

Marshall County was formed on January 9, 1836. It was named after Alabama Attorney General John Marshall . The first district capital was Claysville, from 1838 Marshall, from 1841 Warrenton and from 1848 Guntersville.

Marshall County's population was 82,231 as of the 2000 census . Of these, 972 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 32,547 households and 23,531 families.
