The 1,049 km long Tennessee is the longest tributary of the Ohio . It flows through the US states of Tennessee , Kentucky , Alabama and Mississippi .

It arises from the confluence of the French Broad River (376 km long) and the Holston River (225 km) near Knoxville and flows into the Ohio at Paducah .

If you add the lengths of Tennessee and French Broad together, the entire course of the river is 1,425 km.

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) manages the Tennessee River's reservoir system.
