French Broad River in Henderson County, North Carolina

French Broad River is the 376 km long left headwaters of the Tennessee River in North Carolina . At the confluence with the Holston River , it forms the Tennessee River from Knoxville . It is one of the two broad rivers in western North Carolina and was originally on French territory. The second major river on English territory was called the English Broad River (now just the Broad River ). The river has its source in the Blue Ridge Mountains on the west side of the eastern North American watershed and then flows northwest. It crosses a main ridge of the Appalachian Mountains. From this it can be concluded that the river existed before the formation of the mountain range and that it was able to compensate for the gradual uplift by deepening it further. The river is a fast flowing mountain river that is used for water sports such as kayaking and rafting . The largest place on the river is Asheville , where it receives the Swannanoa River . The lower reaches of the river is the Douglas Dam , which the Tennessee Valley Authority belongs (TVA), a network of river power plants , which during the Second World War has been established to the energy for the enrichment of uranium (for nuclear bombs) in Oak Ridge to deliver. A little before the confluence is the Seven Islands nature reserve .
