The US Post Office Albertville is a subsidiary of the United States Postal Service in Albertville , Alabama . Built in 1931 as part of the Works Progress Administration , the post office is located at 107, West Main Street, and is one of the few buildings in Albertville's central business district that has not undergone major urban renewal changes.

building

The building is a two-story brick building with a mansard roof . The masonry is carried out in a variant of the American Association , with four rows of straps alternating with a row of trusses. The mansard roof is also unusual because the sides are made of greenish slate and the lid is made of tar paper with gravel sprinkled over it. On both sides above the entrance there are bay windows , each with a gable roof. On the eaves there is a parapet with four inserted balustrades , each of which sits above the double sliding windows.

The main entrance, to which a staircase leads, lies under an elaborately designed, one-story portico with a triangular gable supported by four Doric columns. The cornice above the architrave is made in the same style as the cornice below the eaves. On both sides of the main entrance there are two double sliding windows, each with three rows of four panes, the two side facades have six such windows.

Inside, the walls and ceilings of the first floor are plastered throughout. Red, square tiles have been laid on the floor of the counter hall. The walls are paneled in white marble with a base of green marble. The cover cap of the paneling is also designed. The risers and steps of the stairs are also made of white marble. There is no art in architecture in the counter hall.

In the basement, the rooms only used for storage purposes are no longer equipped, but are made of raw concrete. The rooms on the upper floor are not fully developed. The post inspector's office, the break room and the corridors were given plastered walls and ceilings and a floor made of vinyl tiles when they were built.

The building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since June 21, 1983 because of its architectural significance .
