The Talladega County is a county in the US state of Alabama of the United States . The county seat is Talladega .
geography
The county is located in northeastern Alabama, about 70 km east of Georgia , and has an area of 1969 square kilometers, of which 54 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Calhoun County , Cleburne County , Clay County , Coosa County , Shelby County, and St. Clair Counties .
history
Talladega County was formed on December 18, 1832, from portions of Muskogee Indian territory . Talladega has been the district capital since 1834. It was named after the former Indian settlement of the same name.

About 3 miles northeast of Talladega , on Alabama State Route 21, is the historic JLM Curry House (also known as Jabez Lamar Monroe Curry House ). The house was the residence of Jabez Lamar Monroe Curry , and was listed on October 15, 1966 as a Historic Monument with the number 66000154 on the National Register of Historic Places . It has also had the status of a National Historic Landmark since December 1965 . 24 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of April 13, 2020), including Swayne Hall, another National Historic Landmark .

2000 census lived in Talladega County 80,321 people. Of these, 3,701 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 30,674 households and 21,901 families. The population density was 42 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 67.02 percent white, 31.55 percent African American, 0.23 percent Native American, 0.20 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.27 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.71 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.01 percent of the population.
Of the 30,674 households, 32.1 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. There were married couples living together in 52.4 percent, 15.2 percent were single mothers, 28.6 percent were not families, 25.9 percent of all households were single households and 10.6 percent had people aged 65 and over or above. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.00 people.
25.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 9.0 percent between 18 and 24, 28.8 percent between 25 and 44, 23.9 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.3 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 95.7 males and for women aged 18 and over there were 93.5 males.
The median income for a household in the 31,628 USD , and the median income for a family 38,004 USD. Males had a median income of $ 30,526 versus $ 21,040 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,704. 13.9 percent of families and 17.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
