Talladega [ tæləˈdiːɡə ] is a city of 15,676 in the US state of Alabama on Interstate 20 between Birmingham and Atlanta . It is the seat of the county seat of Talladega County .
history
Historical objects
About 3 miles northeast of Talladega, on Alabama State Route 21, is the historic JLM Curry House (also known as Jabez Lamar Monroe Curry House ). The house was the residence of Jabez Lamar Monroe Curry . The building was listed on October 15, 1966 on the National Register of Historic Places as a Historic Monument with the number 66000154. It is also inscribed on the National Historic Landmark .
Culture and sights
Talladega is best known for the Talladega Superspeedway , on which two 500-mile races of the NASCAR Sprint Cup , one race of the NASCAR Nationwide Series , one race of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series , and an ARCA RE / MAX Series - Races are organized. The International Motorsports Hall of Fame is also located in Talladega.
Economy and Infrastructure
The city has a small airport, Talladega Municipal Airport (IATA code ASN, ICAO code KASN) with a 1829 meter long runway.
Talladega College, founded in 1869, is on the outskirts of Talladega. It took the first Liberal Arts - College of African descent in Alabama Americans.
Personalities
The American inventor Lee De Forest (1873–1961) grew up in Talladega.
