Hedi Lang
Hedwig "Hedi" Lang-Gehri (born October 30, 1931 in Uster ; † March 31, 2004 in Zollikerberg ) was a Swiss politician . She was the second woman to preside over the National Council after Elisabeth Blunschy, the first for a full year.
biography
Hedi Lang was a member of the Social Democratic Party . In 1971, after the introduction of women's suffrage, she was one of the first women to be elected to the National Council, to which she was a member until 1983. From November 30, 1981 to November 29, 1982 she was President of the National Council .
In 1983 she was elected to the government council of the canton of Zurich - also a first for a woman. She headed the Justice and Home Affairs Directorate until 1991, after which she headed the Economics Directorate until 1995. She was also President of the Government Council twice, in 1989/90 and 1994/95. From 1973 to 1983 she was president of the Pro Familia Switzerland association .
Hedi Lang was married to Erwin A. Lang from 1957 .
