Moundville is a city in the state of Alabama , the parish of which is divided into Hale Counties and Tuscaloosa Counties.

Demographics

At the time of the 2000 United States Census, Moundville was inhabited by 1809 people. The population density was 177.3 people per km ². There were 780 housing units at an average of 76.4 per km ². The population of Moundville was 61.30% White , 35.16% Black or African American , 0.66% Native American , 0.94% Asian , 0.83% said they were racial and 1.11% said two or more races. 1.55% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.

The residents of Moundville distributed to 688 households out of which 35.9% were living in children under 18 years of age. 45.3% of households were married, 19.0% had a female head of household without a husband and 30.4% were not families. 27.6% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 10.9% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.08.

The population was divided into 26.3% minors, 9.8% 18–24 year olds, 27.7% 25–44 year olds, 20.7% 45–64 year olds and 15.5% aged 65 and over or more. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 women there were 90.4 men. For every 100 women over 18, there were 83.4 men.

The median household income in Moundville was 31,944 US dollars and the median family income reached the amount of 35,719 US dollars. The median income for men was $ 30,625 versus $ 25,231 for women. The per capita income for Moundville was $ 13,014. 20.9% of the population and 21.2% of families had an income below the poverty line , including 24.6% of minors and 16.7% of those aged 65 and over.

Moundville Archaeological Park

The Moundville Archaeological Park was granted National Historic Landmark status on July 19, 1964 . In October 1966, the park was listed as a site on the National Register of Historic Places . There are 26 burial mounds and other artifacts from the 11th-14th century Mississippi civilization , which was the largest city in North America 800 years ago.
