Jean Gallion

Jean Gallion (born December 27, 1913 in Differdange , † October 12, 1968 ) was a Luxembourg politician ( LSAP ) and trade unionist . He was mayor of his hometown as well as a member of the Luxembourg parliament , the assembly of the Western European Union and the consultative assembly of the Council of Europe .

Life

Gallion, a metal worker by profession, was involved in the union movement early on. From 1937 he held important functions in the Lëtzebuerger Arbechter Association , including its treasurer . In 1956 he became general secretary of the Chamber of Labor.

In 1951 Gallion was elected to the Luxembourg parliament for the first time. Re-elected several times, he remained a member of the Chamber until his death. Since 1962 he was also a member of the Assembly of the Western European Union and since June 1964 also a member of the consultative assembly of the Council of Europe and one of the vice-presidents there.

From 1964 to 1968 Gallion was mayor of Differdange. In the Oberkorn district , a street ( rue Jean Gallion ) is named after him.
