Oberkorn

Oberkorn ( Luxembourgish Uewerkuer , French Obercorn ) is a village in the municipality of Differdange in the canton of Esch-Alzette in Luxembourg . It has approx. 3,000 inhabitants and has an outdoor swimming pool .

history

Differdange was given the title of city by the Grand Duke in 1907 . The municipality of Differdingen consisted of the four villages Differdingen, Oberkorn, Niederkorn and Lasauvage since the beginning of the 19th century. The Fousbann district only developed gradually in the 20th century and includes the Cité Henry Gray and Cité Kauffmann estates . Below the Ronneberg and the Kiemrichs (Kiemreech) south of Oberkorn was the triangle between Luxembourg, the German Empire and France from 1871 to 1920 .

Meaning of the place name

The names Oberkorn and Niederkorn come from the Maas tributary Korn , which rises in Oberkorn and also flows through Niederkorn.

Worth seeing

  • The swimming pool in Oberkorn is known in the region. In July 2008 it counted 7,400 visitors, in 2006 the month of July also brought a record, with 20,000 visitors.

  • The Rattem hill with 387 m is the highest in the area.

Others

The British music group Depeche Mode named an instrumental piece Oberkorn - It's A Small Town (B-side of the single The Meaning Of Love ) after this town in 1982 . It alludes to a performance by the band at the Rainbow Club in Oberkorn on March 30, 1982.
