Niederkorn
Niederkorn , also Niedercorn ( Luxembourgish Nidderkuer ), is a town in the municipality of Differdange in the canton of Esch an der Alzette in Luxembourg .
In 2005 the place had 5400 inhabitants. Neighboring communities are Sassenheim , Petingen and Käerjeng . The place takes its name from the Korn River . Nearby is the Giele Botter , formerly an open-cast mining area and now a biotope .
The local football club, FC Progrès Niederkorn , is a multiple Luxembourg champion and cup winner.
The footballer Victor Nurenberg , the author Paul Katow , the chess player Fiona Steil-Antoni , the basketball player Thomas Grün and the handball player Tina Welter come from the village . The city-famous Clochard Pierre Adolphe Schockmell, known as Dolles (* February 19, 1896 / † December 12, 1970 in Niederkorn), who was erected on September 24, 2012 in Niederkorn , also lived in the village .
