Luther Patrick
Luther Patrick (born January 23, 1894 near Decatur , Morgan County , Alabama , † May 26, 1957 in Birmingham , Jefferson County , Alabama) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ).
Career
Luther Patrick attended public schools, the Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and the Purdue University in Lafayette ( Indiana ). He graduated from the Law Department of the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa in 1918 . He also served during the First World War from June 14, 1918 to December 4, 1918 as a private in the Army Training Detachment and the Central Officers' Training School . He was admitted to the bar the following year and then began practicing in Fairfield, Alabama. Then he served as the Fairfield District Attorney between 1920 and 1922. He was also the author of many poems and books. Patrick started a career as a radio commentator in 1925. He then served as Assistant Attorney General between 1927 and 1929 and as Assistant District Attorney for Northern Alabama between 1933 and 1934.
Patrick was elected to the 75th US Congress and re - elected to the two subsequent US Congresses . In his candidacy for the 78th US Congress in 1942 , however, he suffered a defeat. He served in the US House of Representatives from January 3, 1937 to January 3, 1943. Then he held the post of advisor to the War Production Board between 1943 and 1944 . Patrick was re-elected to the 79th US Congress but missed re-election to the 80th US Congress in 1946 . He served in the US House of Representatives from January 3, 1945 to January 3, 1947. He then went back to his practice as a lawyer in Birmingham (Alabama). He also took part in 1956 as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention .
Patrick died in Birmingham, Alabama in 1957 and was buried in Elmwood Cemetery .
