George Huddleston

George Huddleston (born November 11, 1869 near Lebanon , Tennessee , † February 29, 1960 in Birmingham , Alabama ) was an American politician and represented the state of Alabama in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Huddleston was born on November 11, 1869 on a farm near Lebanon , Wilson County , Tennessee , where he attended community school. He studied law at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee. He was admitted to the bar in 1891 and practiced in Birmingham, Alabama until 1911 when he retired.

During the Spanish-American War , he served as a common soldier in the Alabama's 1st Regiment of Volunteer Infantry. After he retired as a lawyer, he was elected a Democrat in the sixty-fourth and subsequent ten Congresses. He worked there between March 4, 1915 and January 3, 1937. He lost his re-election in 1936.

George Huddleston died on February 29, 1960 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was buried in Elmwood Cemetery .
