Kenneth A. Roberts

Kenneth Allison Roberts (born November 1, 1912 in Piedmont , Alabama , † May 9, 1989 in Anniston, Alabama ) was an American politician and represented the state of Alabama in the US House of Representatives as a Democrat .

Career

Kenneth Allison Roberts was born on November 1, 1912 in Piedmont, Alabama. He also attended the public school there, as well as Samford College in Birmingham, Alabama . Roberts graduated from the University of Alabama Law School in 1935 . He was admitted to the bar in 1936 and then opened a practice in Anniston, Alabama. Roberts was elected to the State Senate in 1942, but resigned that same year to join the United States Navy . He served in the rank of lieutenant until his release in 1945, where he was on both theaters of war in the Atlantic and Pacific. After the war he was President of Piedmont Development Co. He worked there from 1945 to 1950. He was also a member of the Alabama State Board of Veterans Affairs and an attorney in Piedmont, Alabama between 1948 and 1950.

Roberts was elected a Democrat in the eighty-second and six subsequent Congresses. He worked there from January 3, 1951 to January 3, 1965. During this time he participated in the letter of protest against racial integration in public institutions. However, he lost his re-election in 1964 for the eighty-ninth Congress. After serving in Congress, he resumed work in his practice. He practiced as a lawyer until his retirement in 1979. Between 1965 and 1972 he was also an advisor to the Vehicle Equipment Safety Commission . He was also a member of the National Highway Safety Advisory Committee from 1966 to 1970.

Kenneth Allison Roberts was a resident of Anniston, Alabama until his death on May 9, 1989. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery .
