John Crowell (politician, 1780)

John Crowell (born September 18, 1780 in Crowells Crossroads, Halifax County , North Carolina , † June 25, 1846 in Fort Mitchell , Alabama ) was an American politician ( Democratic Republican Party ).

Career

John Crowell attended public schools. He moved in 1815 to the Alabama territory , where he became the Federal Commissioner in matters of Muskogee - Indians ( Creek was named). He settled in St. Stephens in 1817 .

Crowell was elected as a delegate for the Alabama Territory in the 15th US Congress and served there from January 29, 1818 to March 3, 1819. When Alabama was then accepted on December 14, 1819 as the 22nd US state in the union he was elected as a member of the 16th US Congress , to which he was a member from December 14, 1819 to March 3, 1821. He was then reappointed in 1821 as federal commissioner on matters relating to the Muskogee, which were located in western Georgia and eastern Alabama. He held this position until he moved to Indian territory in 1836.
