Edward deGraffenried (born June 30, 1899 in Eutlaw , Greene County , Alabama , † November 5, 1974 in Tuscaloosa , Alabama) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Edward deGraffenried graduated 1917 of the military academy in Gulfport ( Mississippi ). He also served as a privateer in the US Army during the First World War . He was released on December 5, 1918 at Camp Pike , Arkansas . Then he went to law school at the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, where he graduated in 1921. He was admitted to the bar in June 1921 and then began to practice in Tuscaloosa. He served as a solicitor in the 6th Judicial District of Alabama from 1927 to 1934 and again from 1943 to 1947 . In his re-election attempts in 1934 and 1938 he suffered defeat on both occasions. He ran unsuccessfully for a Democratic nomination for the 80th US Congress in 1946 , but was then elected to the 81st US Congress and re - elected to the 82nd US Congress . In his second attempt at re-election in 1952 in the 83rd US Congress , he suffered a defeat. He served in the US House of Representatives from January 3, 1949 to January 3, 1953. He then went on to work as a lawyer, which he carried out until his retirement shortly before his death. He was buried in Evergreen Cemetery .
