Albert McKinley Rains (born March 11, 1902 in Grove Oak , DeKalb County , Alabama , † March 22, 1991 in Gadsden , Alabama) was an American politician and represented the state of Alabama in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Rains attended public schools, Snead Seminary in Boaz , State Teachers College in Jacksonville, and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa , where he studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1928 and opened a practice in Gadsden the following year. He was then from 1930 to 1935 Deputy District Attorney in Etowah County and between 1935 and 1944 Attorney for the City of Gadsden.

Rains served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1941 to 1944 . He was then elected as a Democrat in the 79th and nine subsequent Congresses. He worked in the House of Representatives between January 3, 1945 and January 3, 1965. After that he did not run again for the 89th Congress. He served as chairman of the board of First City National Bank (later First Alabama Bank of Gadsden ) until he became chairman emeritus in 1979. He lived in Gadsden until his death in 1991.
