Benjamin Glover Shields

Benjamin Glover Shields (* 1808 in Abbeville , Abbeville County , South Carolina , † 1850 in Texas ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ).

He moved with his father to Clarke County ( Alabama ) and later settled in Demopolis down (Alabama). Shields completed his prep studies. Then in 1834 he became a member of the Alabama House of Representatives . He was later elected to the 27th US Congress , where he served from March 4, 1841 to March 3, 1843. Shields was appointed United States Chargé d'Affaires of Venezuela by US President James K. Polk in 1845 , where he lived until January 7, 1850. He then moved to Texas, where he did agricultural work until his death that same year .
