history
Demopolis was founded by a group of Bonaparte who fled to the United States after the fall of Napoleon Bonaparte . They first arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but then settled in Alabama in anticipation of a better climate for agriculture . Filmed in 1949, the western Last Second with John Wayne treats the creation of Demopolis as a theme.
Demographics
According to the 2000 census, Demopolis had 7,540 inhabitants, spread across 3,014 households and 2,070 families.
