The Škoda 706 RT was a truck from the Czechoslovak commercial vehicle manufacturer LIAZ . It originated from the Škoda 706 R truck.

The ladder frame of the Škoda 706 R was shortened because a front-link structure was used instead of the previous long-hood structure . The driver's cab could not be tilted and access to the engine was made via flaps. The drive was the Škoda 706 RT engine. It was derived from the swirl chamber engine of the Škoda 706 R. The engine, a six-cylinder diesel engine with direct injection , had a displacement of 11.78 l and an output of 160 hp. With the new engine, performance and reliability could be increased. The drive unit was completed by a single-disc dry clutch and a synchronized five-speed gearbox. The engine was positioned in the chassis above the front axle. The rear axle was driven by a two-part cardan shaft. Used came leaf-sprung solid axle with lever shock absorbers . The vehicle was decelerated with pneumatically actuated brakes on all wheels, which were supported by an engine brake . There was also a mechanical parking brake. The steering was a hydraulic power steering with pneumatic assistance. The tires were mounted on Trilex rims . With a vehicle mass of around 9 t, the permissible total mass was around 16 t.

Various bodies were manufactured for the vehicle, for which the wheelbase of the chassis was adapted. Three-way tippers , flatbed trucks and tractor units were widespread , but also special bodies such as garbage trucks , water tankers and fire trucks . The driver's cab for the flatbed trucks, tractors and some special bodies was extended and had four seats. The vehicle was imported into the GDR from 1957 and dominated the streetscape there in the 1960s after the production of heavy trucks in the GDR had ceased.

The Škoda 706 RTO bus was derived from the Škoda 706 RT .

From 1960, the China National Heavy Duty Truck Group ( Sinotruk ) produced China's first heavy truck, the Huanghe JN150 , which was a replica of the Škoda 706 RT.
