Sinotruk (actually: China National Heavy Duty Truck Group , or CNHTC for short ) is the leading producer of heavy trucks in China with a market share of around 20 percent. The Chinese group sold more than 100,000 trucks in 2008. Sinotruk achieved sales of the equivalent of 2.5 billion euros and earnings of 122 million euros.

The company's headquarters are in Jinan .

history

The company emerged in 1956 from the Jinan General Auto Works Plant , which was founded in 1935 and had produced auto parts up until then. In 1960, the first heavy truck in China, the 8-ton Huanghe JN150, based on the Škoda 706 RT, was produced under the Huanghe (“ Yellow River ”) brand .

From 1983 the Steyr 91 was manufactured in Jinan . Sinotruk was the first Chinese manufacturer to introduce the technology for the production of heavy commercial vehicles from abroad.

The new company China Heavy Duty Truck Group Co., Ltd. was established in 2001 through several restructuring measures. In 2003 a joint venture was entered into with Volvo , from which the HOWO brand emerged in 2004 .

In 2009, the German MAN group acquired 25 percent plus one share of the voting rights in Sinotruk for 560 million euros. In 2009 MAN was the world's third largest manufacturer of heavy trucks. The new joint brand Sitrak was presented at Auto Shanghai 2011 .
