The Trilex rim is a wheel system for commercial vehicles developed by the Georg Fischer Group (GF) . The Trilex rim is a type of flat bed rim. The rights of the protected trademark are now with SAF-Holland , which Georg Fischer Verkehrstechnik in Singen took over.

Design

The Trilex rim consists of three segments that are attached to the wheel spider with clamping parts. In the case of twin wheels (e.g. rear axle double tires on trucks) there is an intermediate ring as a spacer.

In contrast to other, more widespread flat-bed rims, the division of the rim, which is absolutely necessary for tire mounting, is not axial, but radial. The wheel spider (comparable to the wheel flange of one-piece drop center rims ) remains on the hub when the wheel is dismantled, only the rim is removed. To dismantle the tire, the rim is now divided into the three unequal segments that make up it using a hand tool and then "threaded out" of the tire.

The advantage of this construction is that you can remove the tire from the rim without mechanical assistance and therefore not only change the wheel but also the tire on site (for example on the construction site). The easy tire fitting, the good ventilation of the brake and the stable construction are particularly advantageous. The main disadvantage of the Trilex wheel system is that a hose always has to be used.

With the Tublex system there is a possibility of using tubeless tires, but this rim is not split radially and therefore not a Trilex rim. This system is similar to a conventional axially split flat-bed rim, but has no wheel flange and can therefore be mounted on the corresponding Trilex wheel spider. The advantage of manually changing tires without a tire changer is no longer given, so the Tublex system has hardly been able to establish itself so far.
