Konrad Freiberg

Konrad Freiberg (born July 23, 1951 in Schwarzenbek ) is a German police officer and politician ( SPD ) and former chairman of the federal executive board of the police union (GdP) from 2000 to 2010.

Life

Freiberg joined the police service ( middle service ) of the Hamburg police force in 1968 , and from 1982 he was trained for a career in the higher service . He joined the GdP in 1978. Freiberg's trade union involvement began in 1979 as a member of the staff council , and he held this position until 1998. After several functions at the state level, he became a GdP functionary at the federal level: Chairman of the Criminal Police Specialist Committee, Criminal Investigation Specialist in the Federal Executive Board (1986 to date), Member of the Executive Federal Executive Board (since 1990), Deputy Federal Chairman (1994-2000) and finally Federal Chairman of the GdP from November 2000 to November 2010. Bernhard Witthaut was elected as his successor .

He carries the official title of chief detective . Freiberg is a member of the SPD . In June 2013 he was elected mayor of Schwarzenbek. In spring 2014 Freiberg, as the majority leader of an SPD / CDU / Greens / FDP coalition, supported the mayoral candidacy of the former Hamburg member of parliament Christian Carstensen , who on June 15, 2014 was defeated by the independent candidate Ute Borchers-Seelig, supported by the Free Voting Association Schwarzenbek (FWS) .

At the beginning of 2002, Freiberg defended the use of emetics to secure evidence of (presumably) swallowed body packs . In his view, without emetics there was no evidence and without evidence there was no convictions.

In 2008, Freiberg commented on child pornography as follows:

“'The enormous spread of pictorial representations of sexual abuse on children also means that this market is in constant need of supplies. This increases the risk of children becoming victims of such crimes worldwide. Any means is right to combat this. '"
