The "law blog" run by Udo Vetter is the largest lawyer blog in Germany. In it, he reports in the format of storytelling from his everyday life as a criminal defense lawyer and from other cases from legal practice. The texts take a critical look at the work of the public prosecutor's offices , the courts and, in particular, the police . The blog has existed since March 26, 2003 with several articles per week.

The “law blog” sign was registered as a word mark at the German Patent and Trademark Office , but was deleted after a complaint from a law firm. Vetter initially filed a complaint against this decision, but ultimately waived all rights to the word mark in the complaint procedure; their deletion is therefore legally binding.

As an offshoot of the "law blog", Vetter also ran the prison blog , which was about everyday life in prison. This blog is no longer available. He has also been blogging for the Düsseldorf insurance group Arag since the late summer of 2012 , initially in return for the company's advertising in his “law blog”, and after criticism in social media only on the insurance company's website.

Positions

Udo Vetter is considered critical of the judiciary. In his blog and in his lectures, Vetter advocates the preservation of fundamental rights and the strengthening of the rights of the accused.

He takes the view that an illegal measure in criminal prosecution should result in a ban on the use of evidence . In addition, he calls for consequences for officials and judges who carry out or allow illegal measures. In his opinion, the police are too quick to help with house searches . He sees the judge's reservation being undermined by “ imminent danger ”; He does not see court rulings that set the barriers being implemented.

In the run-up to the Access Barrier Act , he described in detail his previous experience as a criminal defense lawyer on the subject of child pornography. He sharply contradicted Ursula von der Leyen's description of a multi-million dollar "child porn industry". Within the blogosphere , the post received a wide response and was often linked.
