Steinbach am Wald (officially Steinbach a.Wald ) is a municipality in the Upper Franconian district of Kronach in Bavaria . The name also designates the main town of the municipality.

geography

Geographical location

The state-approved resort of Steinbach is located on the Rennsteig and in the Franconian Forest Nature Park . The Altort runs through the valley of the Steinbach . About 1.5 km to the northeast is the former district of Steinbach Bahnhof with the train station, housing developments and a larger industrial area. There is a watershed between the two districts , which is marked by a memorial plaque carved in stone. All the water that flows in the direction of Ludwigsstadt flows into the Elbe and all the water that flows in the direction of Kronach into the Rhine. The border between the Catholic diocese of Bamberg and the Protestant communities of Ludwigsstadt, Ebersdorf etc. ran there.

Community structure

The municipality of Steinbach am Wald has eight officially named districts (number of inhabitants in brackets as of 2017) and consists of five districts that correspond to the former municipalities:

The district of Steinbach a.Wald Bhf. , Later only Steinbach a.Wald Dorf, was no longer managed as an independent district from around 1987, although still structurally separated. The Berghof wasteland , which belonged to the Hirschfeld community, was demolished at the same time.

history

The settlement of the Franconian Forest (Nortwald) by clearing settlements began at the behest of the Bamberg bishops in the middle of the 12th century. In 1190 the place was first mentioned in a document as "Steynbach". Until 1388 he belonged to the "Eygen Teuschnitz", a large property of the Langheim monastery . The property was bought by the diocese of Bamberg .

Towards the end of the 18th century, Steinbach am Wald with Kohl and Steinbachermühle formed a real community consisting of 36 properties (1 estate, 2 three-quarter estates, 13 semi-estates, 8 quarter estates, 2 eighths, 6 drip houses , 2 houses, 1 grinding mill, 1 grinding mill and Granulator). The high court was exercised by the Bamberg center Teuschnitz . The Teuschnitz caste office held the village and community rulership as well as the lordship over all properties . In addition to the property, there was also 1 church and 1 semi-estate and 2 quarter properties that were uninhabited.

As a result of secularization , Steinbach am Wald came to Bavaria . With the community edict, Steinbach was assigned to the Windheim tax district formed in 1808 . With the second community edict (1818) the rural community Steinbach was formed, to which Kohlmühle and Steinbachermühle belonged. In administration and jurisdiction, it was subordinate to the Teuschnitz district court and in financial management to the Rothenkirchen Rent Office ( renamed the Rothenkirchen Tax Office in 1919 ). In 1837 Steinbach was transferred to the Ludwigsstadt district court . From 1862 to 1880 and from 1888 to 1931 Kehlbach was administered by the Teuschnitz District Office , from 1880 to 1888 and from 1931 by the Kronach District Office (renamed the Kronach District in 1939 ). The jurisdiction remained with the district court Ludwigsstadt until 1879, from 1879 district court Ludwigsstadt , which in 1956 became a branch of the district court Kronach . The financial management was taken over in 1929 by the Kronach tax office . The community originally had an area of 6,951 km², which in 1951 increased to 6,996 km² through the incorporation of Steinbach am Wald Bahnhof , and finally to 7,374 km² in 1961.

badges and flags

The municipality of Steinbach am Wald has had a coat of arms since 1990 .

coat of arms
Coat of arms of Steinbach am Wald
Blazon : “In blue a lowered, silver wave bar , covered by a golden chalice from which a golden abbot grows; trimmed to the right by a silver heraldic lily , to the left by three silver balls placed one to two. "
Justification of the coat of arms: The current coat of arms represents all five parts of the municipality. The chalice with the growing abbot's staff is the coat of arms of the Cistercian monastery Langheim , which originally had manorial claims there. The three spheres are the attributes of St. Nicholas , to whom the parish church in Windheim is consecrated. The wave bar stands for the place names Buchbach, Kehlbach and Steinbach. As a symbol of Mary, the lily represents the patronage of the two churches of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Hirschfeld and the Seven Painful Mary in Kehlbach.

The blazon of the old coat of arms reads: "Above the blue wave shield river a continuous silver wall, above it in blue side by side a growing single-tower fortified church in side view and a golden chalice with a golden abbot's staff growing from it."

The clubs are united in the Association of Associations (VVB).

Events

A highlight in the course of the year is the traditional costume parish, which is held every year on the second weekend in July by the Zechgemeinschaft. The young people of the village revive the old custom of mining and present themselves in traditional Steinbach costumes. On the last weekend in August, the shooting club invites you to a shooting festival with a rock evening, pageant and proclamation of the king. For four days in November, the local theater company takes to the stage to perform comedies. In December, the VVB organizes the village Christmas on the town hall square. Every year at the turn of the year, the Windheim Chess Friends have been organizing the International Windheim New Years Open since 1984, a rapid chess tournament that attracts guests from far beyond the region.
