history

Former district office building, Hauptstraße 30 in Teuschnitz

The district office of Teuschnitz was first formed during the time of the Kingdom of Bavaria as part of the administrative reform of 1862 on July 1, 1862. It arose from the communities of the regional courts of the older order Ludwigsstadt and Nordhalben and had its seat in Teuschnitz . When it was founded, it comprised 37 parishes; Kaulsdorf , located in today's district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt in Thuringia , which had belonged to Bavaria since 1810, fell back to Prussia at the end of the German War of 1866 .

On January 1, 1880, the district office was dissolved and incorporated into the Kronach district office. This happened against the resistance of the city of Teuschnitz, which referred to its central location within the administrative district and the good transport connections of the surrounding villages and feared economic losses. The government in Munich , on the other hand, argued that all economic needs in the Teuschnitz district office are already geared towards Kronach and that the necessary infrastructure will be available thanks to the Frankenwaldbahn, which is under construction . Since this was not confirmed in practice and the unfavorable traffic conditions in the enlarged Kronach District Office made administration very difficult, the Teuschnitz District Office was set up again in 1888.

As early as the 1920s, efforts were made to reform the Teuschnitz and Kronach district offices. It was discussed whether to strengthen the Teuschnitz office by assigning the municipalities of Eila , Gifting , Grössau and Posseck , which belong to the Kronach district office , to it; however, the affected municipalities spoke out against it.

The Ministry of the Interior made a proposal at the end of November 1928, which may be based on an initiative of the Teuschnitz District Assembly, which had presented the Bavarian Minister of the Interior with a corresponding memorandum. For example, the headquarters of the Teuschnitz district office should be relocated to Rothenkirchen , as the local tax office building would be available through the merger of the Rothenkirchen and Kronach tax offices . Because of the better accessibility, the communities Heinersberg , Langenbach and Steinbach bei Geroldsgrün should be assigned to the district office Naila and the communities Dürrenwaid , Lahm , Nordhalben and Nurn to the district office Kronach. In return, the municipalities of Burggrub , Eila, Gifting, Glosberg , Grössau, Haig , Neukenroth , Posseck, Reitsch , Stockheim and Wolfersdorf were to be assigned to the newly created Rothenkirchen district office. The district officials of the offices of Kronach and Teuschnitz were asked to comment on these plans.

The Kronach district official welcomed the proposal to a large extent, but with the exception of Eila, Grössau and Posseck spoke out against assigning the municipalities belonging to the Kronach district office to a new Rothenkirchen district office, as these were exclusively oriented towards Kronach.

The Teuschnitz district official, Lorenz Teufel, was in favor of merging the Teuschnitz and Kronach districts. He argued that the population of the Teuschnitz office would travel to Kronach anyway for economic reasons or to deal with other official matters, so that a relocation of the office to Rothenkirchen would not represent a fundamental improvement. In further letters to the state government, he stated that the district assembly would be skeptical of a merger of the two district offices, primarily because the members feared that the interests of the former Teuschnitz municipalities would be neglected in the new district office. The communities themselves would be rather indifferent to positive about merging the two offices. The population in the economically weak district office of Teuschnitz, consisting mainly of workers and farmers, feels, however, generally neglected by the state government and the Bavarian authorities compared to other districts.

On April 25, 1931, the Ministry of the Interior informed the government of Upper Franconia that the Teuschnitz district office would be abolished and its communities should be assigned to the Naila and Kronach district offices. The Kronach District Assembly approved these plans on May 7, 1931, but pointed out the high unemployment in the Teuschnitz and Kronach districts and demanded appropriate support measures from the state government, especially with regard to road construction.

On May 8, 1931, the Teuschnitz district assembly did not agree to the merger and again demanded that the Teuschnitz office be retained and the official seat moved to Rothenkirchen. At the same time, the members decided that Oberregierungsrat Teufel should become the new district board member when the two districts of Teuschnitz and Kronach are merged.

On May 19, 1931, the Teuschnitz district office was informed by telegram of the Bavarian Interior Minister Karl Stützel about the final dissolution of the office on June 1, 1931. The two communities Langenbach and Steinbach bei Geroldsgrün were assigned to the Naila district office, the rest to the Kronach district office. Plans for the establishment of a district office branch in Ludwigsstadt were rejected in view of the good transport connections of the place. The previous Teuschnitz district administrator Lorenz Teufel became the new district officer of the enlarged Kronach district office, which at that time was only managed by a caretaker .
