history

Marienroth was probably created in the 11th century as a clearing by Cistercian monks of the Langheim monastery and originally belonged to the so-called Eigen Teuschnitz. This passed back into the possession of the Bamberg bishops on September 18, 1388 .

The place was first mentioned in documents in 1361 in a "notary instrument" of the long-local high court Teuschnitz under the name "Mergenrod". In 1388 the place was called Marienroth, 1520 Symerodt ecclesia, 1565 Sumerarod, 1568 Sumrode and 1662 Simonroth, 1734 Marienroth.

In 1913/14 the connecting road Marienroth – Brauersdorf was built up to the state road Pressig, thus connecting the place to public transport. On January 1, 1976 Marienroth was incorporated into Pressig.

politics

The last mayor in Marienroth was Baptist Grünbeck and the councilors were: Ferdinand Kestel, Siegfried Stumpf, Rudi Beetz, Otto Hofmann, Kurt Pache, Georg Fiedler, the councilors Erhard Förtsch and Bernhard Böhm.

Coat of arms and official seal

On June 29, 1972, the then community of Marienroth received the approval to use the coat of arms and official seal described below by letter from the government of Upper Franconia (No. II / 4-4121 r 2/72). The design of the coat of arms comes from Karl Haas from Kronach.

Description of coat of arms
"Above a silver shield base, in it a continuous red bar cross, in blue three lilies growing out of a stem, with two diagonally crossed golden flails underneath."
meaning

The symbolism can be explained as follows: The clearing site named after St. Mary is probably a foundation of the Langheim monastery . This is expressed in the coat of arms on the one hand by the three lilies (symbol of Mary) and on the other hand by the colors gold and blue of the Langheim monastery, which sold the 0rt to the bishop of Bamberg in 1388. The so-called George Cross refers to the patron saint of Marienroth, St. George . The flails symbolize the then purely agricultural character of the community .

Official seal

The official seal contains the inscription "Bavaria" at the top, "Gemeinde Marienroth" at the bottom, and the municipal coat of arms as a seal image.

Culture and sights

Instead of a chapel that has been proven to have existed since at least 1388, the Baroque church consecrated to St. George stands in today's center . It was built in the years 1758–1760 and, with a few interruptions, was part of the Teuschnitz parish as a branch church.

Economy and Infrastructure

For centuries Marienroth was dominated exclusively by agriculture . Of the original 25 farmsteads , only two dairy farms have remained. The majority of the workforce is now employed in companies in Pressig, Kronach and other places in the area. In the center of the village there is the fire station of the local volunteer fire brigade , the Kaima Görg guest house and a multi-purpose hall.

With the bus line 8343 Kronach - Reichenbach the Omnibusverkehr Franken GmbH Nuremberg is Marienroth to the public transport and Pressig-Rothenkirchen station on the five kilometers away railway line Hochstadt-Marktzeuln-Probstzella connected.
