The village of Tettaugrund has now risen up in the Tettau district.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1269 as "Theten". The place name is derived from a water body name that was first mentioned in 1194 as "Taetin". The place was first mentioned in its current form in 1670.

The Frankish imperial knight and lord of Lauenstein , Christoph von Thüna , had a number of hearths, a Vorwerk, a cutting mill, a tavern and a hunting lodge built in Tettau in the 16th century. Tettau belonged to the Lauenstein lordship. In 1622 the Thüna family sold the castle and the Lauenstein estate to Margrave Christian von Brandenburg-Bayreuth .

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 39 properties in Tettau (1 three-quarter estate, 3 semi-estates, 1 rear saddle, 1 estate , 3 semi-estates, 5 quarter estates, 3 taverns, 19 drip houses , 1 grinding mill, 1 cutting mill, 1 forge). The high court exercised the Bavarian office of Lauenstein . The Lauenstein caste office held the village and community rulership as well as the lordship over all properties . In addition to the property there was 1 forester's house, 1 church and 1 schoolhouse.

In 1792, the Margraviate of Bayreuth with the Lauenstein office fell to the Kingdom of Prussia , before it passed into the possession of the Electorate of Bavaria , later the Kingdom of Bavaria , through a border and country exchange agreement of June 30, 1803 . In 1794, the royal privileged porcelain factory Tettau was founded.

From 1797 to 1808 the place was subordinate to the Justice and Chamber Office Lauenstein . With the community edict, Tettau was assigned to the Langenau tax district formed in 1808 . With the second community edict (1818) the rural community Tettau was formed, to which Alexanderhütte , Sattelgrund , Tettaugrund and Wildberg belonged. In administration and jurisdiction, it was subordinate to the Lauenstein Regional Court ( renamed Ludwigsstadt Regional Court in 1837 ) and the Lauenstein Rent Office for financial administration . In 1815 Tettau was transferred to the Rothenkirchen Rent Office ( renamed the Rothenkirchen Tax Office in 1919 ). From 1862 to 1880 and from 1888 to 1931 Tettau was administered by the Teuschnitz District Office , from 1880 to 1888 and from 1931 by the Kronach District Office (renamed the Kronach District in 1939 ). Jurisdiction remained with the Tettau District Court until 1879, and Ludwigsstadt District Court from 1879 , which in 1956 became a branch of the Kronach District Court . The financial management was taken over in 1929 by the Kronach tax office . In 1885 the municipality had an area of 7.662 km², which before 1904 decreased to 3,172 km², before 1952 to 3,099 km² and before 1964 to 2,937 km².

With the Pressig-Rothenkirchen-Tettau railway line that went into operation in 1903 , the town was connected to the railway network. In 1904, after a wage strike, a new porcelain factory was built by, among others, former workers of the Tettau porcelain factory, which was named "Neue Porzellanfabrik Gerold" from 1937, had a maximum of 260 employees in 1970 and existed until the 1990s.

Incorporations

As part of the border adjustment between the German Democratic Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany, three farms belonging to Kleinlichtenhain were reclassified to Kleintettau in 1976 (probably in March) .

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent communities of Kleintettau and Langenau were incorporated.

Population development

In the period from 1988 to 2018, the population fell from 2812 to 2061 or by 26.7%. On December 31, 1992 Tettau had 2970 inhabitants.

badges and flags

The municipality of Tettau has had a coat of arms since 1979 .

coat of arms
Coat of arms of Tettau
Blazon : “Above a shield base quartered by silver and black, split by red and silver; in front a silver vase with handles, behind threered keys placedin a three-pass . "
Reasons for the coat of arms: Elements from the coats of arms of the three formerly independent communities Kleintettau , Langenau and Tettau are combined in the community coat of arms . The red keys in the three-pass are taken from the coat of arms of the Lords of Heimburg and were included in the coat of arms of Langenau. Jakob Heimburg and Philipp von Seldeneck acquired the rule of Lauenstein, to which Langenau belonged. The shield base , quartered with silver and black, is taken from the coat of arms of Kleintettau and points to the margraves of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, who had owned the Lauenstein rule since 1622. The handle vase points to the porcelain industry and glass production, which are important for the municipality. The colors red and silver are from the coat of arms of the Lords of Thünau and are reminiscent of the former lords of Lauenstein from 1506 to 1622.
flag

The municipality flag is red and white.

European Bottle Glass Museum

The idea of building a glass museum in Kleintettau came up in the early 1980s. However, due to the remote location on the inner-German border, the realization turned out to be relatively difficult. Thanks to the initiative of the Friends of the Glass Preserve am Rennsteig e. V. the idea received renewed dynamism. With the opening of the European Flacon Glass Museum in December 2008, the association presented the history of the almost 350-year glassmaking tradition in the Franconian Forest. The development of glass bottles from ancient beginnings to modern times is researched and communicated as is the general perfume and cosmetics culture in Europe. With its special collections, the European Flacon Glass Museum presents itself as a public institution on an international level.

Tropical house

On June 13, 2014, the Klein Eden tropical house was opened in Kleintettau. It is heated with the process heat from the neighboring Heinz-Glas glassworks. In particular, the economically viable cultivation of tropical fruits under glass in Central Europe is to be investigated.
